Geld inzamelen voor onderzoek naar Primaire Progressieve Multiple Sclerose 

Ik ben Naomi Wasch en op 13 april 2025 zal ik deelnemen aan de hele marathon van Rotterdam om geld in te zamelen voor het SPIN-P onderzoek, dit is onderzoek naar Primaire Progressieve MS (PPMS).

Ongeveer 10 tot 15 procent van alle mensen met MS heeft een primair progressieve beloopsvorm. Zij gaan geleidelijk achteruit en hebben weinig baat bij medicatie. Er is nog veel onbekend over primair progressieve MS (PPMS). In juni 2020 startte de SPIN-P studie, een onderzoek naar PPMS (bron: https://nationaalmsfonds.nl/interview-veel-onbekend-over-primair-progressieve-ms/).

Waarom ik geld inzamel voor dit specifieke onderzoek is omdat mijn moeder op 15 februari 2023 de diagnose PPMS kreeg, de vooruitzichten waren slecht en na een halfjaarlijkse controle moest blijken hoe het beloop bij haar was. In december 2023 waren we in het VU Amsterdam voor de uitslagen en deze waren niet goed. Mijn moeder bleek de meest agressieve vorm van PPMS te hebben en de verwachting was dat ze binnen 3 tot 6 maanden volledig rolstoel afhankelijk zou zijn - haar armen zouden ook niet meer optimaal functioneren - en mijn moeder zou dan ook in een verzorgingshuis moeten wonen. Daarnaast had mijn moeder ook nog veel littekenweefsel op haar hersenvlies waardoor zij ook o.a. warrig werd. Niet alleen de toekomst zag er niet goed uit maar ook had mijn moeder ondragelijke pijn in haar lichaam.

De vorm die bij mij moeder werd gediagnostiseerd was zodanig agressief dat er geen pijnmedicatie beschikbaar of behandeling mogelijk was. Mijn moeder heeft ontzettend geleden en uiteindelijk het besluit genomen om middels euthanasie verlost te worden van de PPMS.

Mijn moeder is op 16 april 2024 op 49-jarige leeftijd overleden💔😞.

Door geld in te zamelen voor dit onderzoek hoop ik toch mijn steentje bij te kunnen dragen en andere mensen te kunnen helpen.

Raising money for research into Primary Progressive Multiple-Sclerose (PPMS)

My name is Naomi Wasch and on April 13, 2025 I will be running the  Rotterdam marathon because I want to raise money for the SPIN-P study, which is research into PPMS.

About 10 - 15 percent of all people with MS have a primary progressive course. They gradually deteriorate and benefit little from medication. Much is still unknown about primary progressive MS (PPMS). The SPIN-P study started in June 2020 (Source: https://nationaalmsfonds.nl/interview-veel-onbekend-over-primair-progressieve-ms/).

The reason I am raising money for this specific research is because my mother had PPMS, she was diagnosed on February 15, 2023. The prospects were poor and after a six-monthly check-up it was necessary to determine how her condition was progressing. In December 2023 we were in the VU Amsterdam for the results, which were not good. It turned out that my Mother had the most aggressive form of PPMS and it was expected that she would be completely wheelchair dependent within 3 to 6 months and living in a nursing home. She also had a lot of scar tissue on her membrane, which also made her very confused.

The form that was diagnosed in my mother was so aggressive that no pain medication or treatment was possible. My mother suffered tremendously and ultimately made the decision to be released from the PPMS through euthanasia. 

My mother passed away on April 16, 2024 at the young age of 49💔😞.

By raising money for this research, I hope I can do my part and help other people in a similar traumatising situation.
