AlpenX 2019
Zürich – Lago Maggiore
From the lowlands at the river Rhine up to the Alps. Almost 10 years ago six men at the best age had the crazy idea to cross the Alps, just with a mountain bike and a backpack. Since the first trip to Lago di Garda in 2009 the team has remained unchanged in its formation and it consists of Bruno, Christoph, Detlef, Frank, Jochen and HaynesPro Sales Director Michael.
Meanwhile the team finished five alpine crossings, the sixth tour starts shortly.
It takes off in Zürich and the route leads almost cross-country over the Swiss Alps to the southern tip of the Lago Maggiore to Arona (Italy).
The total distance is 400 km and 12,000 meters of altitude need to be overcome. The exact route has been assembled piece by piece by the team with the help of printed bike maps, hiking maps and Google maps and has been transferred to GPS files.
At least on paper the tour looks like to have many "ups" and "downs" again, in the full sense of the word.
Just for the record: the mountain-bikes are driven by pure muscle power, e-bikes are taboo. A week crossing the Alps by mountain bike is certainly a little adventure, a sporty challenge and a great experience.
HaynesPro BV will accompany the tour this year with a special initiative: For every meter of altitude HaynesPro will donate 0.20 Euro to the charity of the Dutch swimmer Maarten van der Weijden.
"It is never too late. Just do it."
