Build a Health Centre for Kajabang, The Gambia
Every mother deserves safe healthcare. Every child deserves a healthy start.
In Kajabang, a growing coastal community in The Gambia, accessing basic healthcare is still a daily challenge.
For many families, especially pregnant women, medical care is simply too far away or too difficult to reach. As a result, essential antenatal check-ups are often delayed, increasing the risk of complications for both mother and baby.

A community that has done everything it can
More than a decade ago, the people of Kajabang came together to build their own health post using locally available materials. Since 2012, this modest mud-brick building has provided essential healthcare services to thousands of people.
Today, however, the building has reached the end of its life. Years of use and exposure to the elements have left it in poor condition. Despite ongoing maintenance by the community, it is no longer safe or adequate to meet the healthcare needs of a growing population.
The community has already done its part.
Now they need ours.

Together, we want to build a modern, permanent health centre that will serve more than 2,500 people in Kajabang and surrounding communities.

Why this matters
Healthcare is more than treating illness.
It means a pregnant mother can receive regular antenatal care.
It means children can be treated before a small illness becomes life-threatening.
It means families no longer have to travel long distances for basic medical attention.
Women make up more than half of Kajabang's population, and many face significant barriers to accessing healthcare. By bringing quality healthcare closer to home, this project will improve maternal health, support safe pregnancies, and create better health outcomes for the entire community.
The project is ready to begin
This is not just an idea.
The land has already been donated by the local community and is officially registered for healthcare use. Approval from the Ministry of Health has been secured, and the project is led by the Gunjur Project Association in partnership with the Kajabang Village Development Committee and community leaders.
Every donation will go directly towards making this health centre a reality.
