Hey allemaal,

De afgelopen 8 weken heb ik me, buiten het vrijwilligerswerk, ondergedompeld in de Keniaanse cultuur en natuur. Het is indrukwekkend om te zien onder welke leefomstandigheden mensen hier leven t.o.v. ons. En hoe mensen met goede omstandigheden leven tussen mensen zonder goede omstandigheden. Tijdens mijn reis ben ik in contact gekomen met Lucy, Keniaanse jonge vrouw uit Nairobi die zich samen met mij in wil zetten voor andere mensen. Graag willen we jullie aandacht daarom voor het volgende:

Het leven gaat veelal om geld en er is geld nodig om te (over)leven. 

Onder de Kenianen werken 35% van de mensen waarvan 15% zijn of haar inkomen genereert door het verkopen van levensmiddelen zoals de mango’s of bananen uit de tuin of de vis die vandaag gevangen is. Of door mensen te helpen met wat dan ook en deze dienst te verkopen. Het percentage werkende mensen is echter gedaald gezien de COVID-19 omstandigheden al 1,5  jaar duren. Dit zorgt weer voor meer armoede. 

In Kenia bestaat er niet zoiets als een WW- of bijstandsuitkering. Mensen worden hier een stuk meer aan hun lot overgelaten en moeten het zelf uit zoeken. Dit lijdt tot schrijnende omstandigheden.   

We kunnen niet heel de wereld helpen, maar alle beetjes helpen. Daarom hopen wij dat jullie iets kleins kunnen missen zodat we een mooi bedrag kunnen verzamelen om verschillende mooie doeleinden te steunen. Want laten we eerlijk zijn; we geven graag 1 of meer euro(‘s) extra uit aan een lekkere lunch of avondmaal, een leuk product van AliExpress of een biertje op het terras. Voor deze ene euro kunnen hier vele mondjes gevoed worden per dag. 

Wij zijn met een aantal mensen in gesprek gekomen en hebben daardoor een meer persoonlijk contact. Dit geeft ons een gevoel dat het geld ook op de juiste plek terecht komt i.p.v. via een tussen organisatie. Middels video’s en foto’s zullen we op de hoogte worden gehouden over hoe het geld besteed wordt. We hebben hen gevraagd om na te denken over wat zij nodig hebben en waaraan zij een X bedrag willen uitgeven. 

De doelen die wij ondersteunen: 

- Community Kibokoni gelegen bij Kilifi, de kinderen die hier wonen kunnen niet naar de basisschool. Waarom niet? Simpelweg omdat zij te ver weg wonen van de school om te lopen, er geen geld is voor transport en het geld waar sommigen aan kunnen komen terug besteedt word aan de basisbehoeften zoals; drinken en eten.

- Kibera (één van de grootste sloppenwijken in heel Afrika gevestigd in Nairobi). Zo is Michelle, Nederlandse reiziger in contact gekomen met Kevin, een van de lokale bewoners in deze wijk. Kevin faciliteert rondleidingen in deze sloppenwijk om geld in te zamelen voor verschillende doeleinden in deze community.

- Neema girls project Kenya: Opgestart om meisjes hoop te geven die leven onder de stress van armoede en de daarmee samenhangende problemen. Dit project promoot een preventiecultuur en biedt meisjes de levensvaardigheden die nodig zijn om zelfvoorzienend en onafhankelijk te zijn. Middels empowerment en door ondersteuning van onderwijs wordt er gestreeft naar een beter leven.

-        School Msambweni: De school is gelegen in een community waar veel ouders wonen met weinig geld. Om deze reden kunnen niet alle kinderen onderwijs volgen. De school tracht met donaties ouders te ondersteunen, zodat de kinderen toch onderwijs kunnen volgen. 

Het geld wordt eerst opgeslagen in een spaarpotje specifiek voor deze doelen. Aan het einde zal dit verdeeld worden. Degene die hier een bewijs van willen zien, kunnen dit opvragen bij mij en ik zal de afschrijving visueel naar je toesturen. 

Wij hopen dat jullie iets kleins kunnen missen zodat we uiteindelijk een mooi bedrag kunnen overmaken namens ons allen en meerdere kinderen en volwassenen hier kunnen helpen!

Hey everyone,

For the past 8 weeks I have immersed myself in Kenyan culture and nature, outside of volunteering. I met Lucy, with who I build up this donation page. 

Together we got in contact with different communities. 

It is impressive to see the living conditions in which people live here compared to us. Also, we were able to do a comparison of the rich and the poor and clearly, there was a very big gap that existed between the two. Therefore we would like to draw your attention to the following.

Now winning in life is about money and you need money to survive. Among the Kenyans, 35% of the people work (white-collar jobs), 15% of whom provide for their own income by selling foodstuffs such as the mangoes from the garden and the fish caught on a daily basis or manual jobs such as helping people carry their luggage’s. However, the percentage has decreased more given the COVID-19 circumstances that have lasted for more than 1.5 years, which in turn causes more poverty. The government has no such thing as a fund for the people who have nothing, so people can figure it out for themselves and that from practical to dire circumstances.

We, therefore, decided to start funding to help the people who live in extreme levels of poverty by the little contributions that can help the children have access to education, food, and shelter which are the basic needs of humans.

We have entered into discussions with a number of communities and have a more personal contact. This gives us the feeling that the money also ends up in the right place instead of through an intermediate organization. We will be kept informed about how the money is being spent through videos and photos. The only thing we've put down to them is to think about what they need and can do with an amount.

- Community located near Kilifi called Kibokoni where we visited and met the children who live here cannot attend primary school. Why not? Simply because they live too far from school to walk, there is no money for transportation, and the money some can get goes back to basic needs; drinks and food.  We have a contact person there by the name of Mr. Kahindi who will assist us with the process to help the village.

- Kibera (one of the largest slums in all of Africa located in Nairobi). For example, Michelle, a Dutch traveler, came into contact with Kevin the local residents in this slum to raise money for a greater improvement in this community.

- Neema girls project Kenya: Started up to give hope to girls living under the stress of poverty and related problems. This project promotes a culture of prevention and provides girls with the life skills needed to be self-sufficient and independent. We strive for a better life through empowerment and by supporting education.

- School Msambweni: The school is located in a community where many parent live with little money. For this reason, not all the children have access to education. The school tries to support parents with donations, so that education for the children can be received.
