Chernych arrived from Ukraine to a Lithuanian shelter with a bunch of other pets in March 2021. We don't know his background but he needed immediate care, was diagnosed FIV+ (immunodeficiency virus) and had to have his left eye removed.
1 year later, the organization "Rescue Dogs & Cats NL" arranged his moving from the shelter in Lithuania to a foster home in the Netherlands, as he would have more chances to be adopted here. He showed to be a very calm and affectionate cat, who loves to go to bed with his fosterer, likes to lay down next to her while making sure he has a paw holding her so she doesn't go away. He never misses dinner and is a great work assistant. He is very social as he likes having people over and receiving as much attention and pets as possible.
Although he settled in easily, showing his sweet behavior and loving heart, we could see he was in pain and feeling uncomfortable. Because of the uncertain upcoming vet bills to make him feel better, nobody reached out to adopt Chernych in 4 month.
Together (me, the fosterer) with the organization, we decided to take action so that he could be adopted and finally find a peaceful place after everything he's been through. He is around 7 years old only so he really deserves a chance to live happily the years to come and after the tough life he's had. The serious gums inflammation and ulcers in his mouth are a symptom of the FIV virus and are extremely painful. They are not life threatening but make him feel very uncomfortable.
The only thing to do is to remove all of his teeth and the surgery would cost around 1500€. The fosterer and organization already put a lot of efforts in his well-being both practically and financially, and we are unable to take care of this surgery on our own.
Thank you for considering helping Chernych 🦷 we will make sure to keep you posted when we reach our goal and finally take him to surgery - as I am confident we will sooner or later❣️
