Hi,

Ik ben Jojanneke. Ik was vroeger heel actief in het nachtleven onder de naam DJ Wannabe A Star voornamelijk als dj, maar ook als danseres en zangeres. Ik ben altijd een strijder voor dieren geweest. 

In januari was ik op vakantie in Mexico. Wat een bijzonder land, vol warmte, schoonheid en ongelooflijk vriendelijke mensen. Ik werd verliefd op het landschap, de cultuur en de ziel van het land. Maar vooral op de straathonden van Mazunte en hun situatie raakte mijn hart diep.

Tijdens mijn verblijf in het kleine kustplaatsje Mazunte kon ik het grote aantal honden dat door de straten dwaalde niet negeren. Velen waren hongerig, onbeschermd en kwetsbaar. Ik begon ze twee keer per dag te voeren, simpelweg omdat ik niet niets kon doen.

Hierdoor ontmoette ik een jonge vrouw uit de gemeenschap die mijn ogen opende voor een veel groter probleem. Veel mensen missen simpelweg de kennis en middelen om goed voor hun honden te zorgen. Van voldoende voeding tot vaccinaties en bescherming tegen ziektes. Zonder sterilisatie en castratie blijft de hondenpopulatie groeien, met meer lijden, meer achtergelaten pups en meer vermijdbare ziektes als gevolg.

Een van de meest hartverscheurende realiteiten is de uitbraak van TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor), een besmettelijke vorm van genitale kanker die wordt verspreid via paring. Zonder sterilisatieprogramma’s en medische behandeling blijft deze ziekte zich onder talloze honden verspreiden. Een ander groot probleem binnen de gemeenschap is de schroefworm (screw worm). Wanneer honden niet gesteriliseerd of gecastreerd zijn, vechten ze vaker, en kunnen wonden geïnfecteerd raken met deze vreselijke parasiet.

Tijdens mijn zoektocht naar manieren om te helpen, vond ik Dogs of Puerto Ángel. Een initiatief geleid door Claudia Mamet, een docente uit het buitenland die haar vrije tijd wijdt aan het helpen van honden en katten in nood. Zij organiseert zorg, ondersteunt sterilisatie- en castratiedagen en helpt waar mogelijk met medische behandelingen. Haar werk is zowel hartverscheurend als diep inspirerend. Gedreven door compassie, veerkracht en onverwoestbare positiviteit in het gezicht van een grote uitdaging.

Maar echte verandering kost tijd. Bewustwording groeit langzaam. En duurzame impact vraagt om middelen.

Daarom zamel ik geld in ter ondersteuning van:

Sterilisatie- en castratieprogramma’s
Medische behandelingen, inclusief zorg voor TVT
Voeding voor kwetsbare straathonden
Educatie en bewustwording binnen de lokale gemeenschap

Elke bijdrage, hoe klein ook, maakt direct verschil. Samen kunnen we het lijden verminderen, ziektes voorkomen en een gezondere toekomst creëren voor de honden van Mazunte.

Hi,

My name is Jojanneke. I was in the apst really active in nightlife under the name DJ Wannabe A Star mostly as a dj, but also as a dancer and singer. I've always been a fighter for animals. In January I went on holiday to Mexico.

Mexico is an extraordinary country filled with warmth, beauty, and incredibly kind people. I fell in love with the landscape, the culture, and the spirit of the place. But especially with the stray dogs of Mazunte and their situation deeply touched my heart.

During my stay in this small coastal town, I couldn’t ignore the number of dogs wandering the streets. Many were hungry, unprotected, and vulnerable. I started feeding them twice a day, simply because I couldn’t do nothing.

Through this, I met a young woman from the community who opened my eyes to a much bigger issue. Many people simply lack the knowledge and resources to properly care for their dogs. From adequate nutrition to vaccinations and protection against disease. Without spaying and neutering, the dog population continues to grow, leading to more suffering, more abandoned puppies, and more preventable illness.

One of the most heartbreaking realities is the outbreak of TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor), a contagious genital cancer that spreads through mating. Without sterilization programs and medical treatment, this disease continues to affect countless dogs. Another huge problem amongst the dogs of the community is the screw worm. When dogs are not spayed or neutered, they obviously fight more and the wounds can get infected with this horrendous parasite.

While searching for ways to help, I found Dogs of Puerto Ángel. An initiative run by Claudia Mamet, a teacher from abroad who dedicates her free time to helping cats and dogs in need. She organizes care, supports spay and neuter days, and assists with medical treatment whenever possible. Her work is both devastating and deeply inspiring. Driven by compassion, resilience, and unwavering positivity in the face of a difficult challenge.

But real change takes time. Awareness grows slowly. And sustainable impact requires resources.

That is why I am raising funds to support:

• Spay and neuter programs
• Medical treatment, including care for TVT
• Food for vulnerable stray dogs
• Education and awareness within the local community

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a direct difference. Together, we can reduce suffering, prevent disease, and create a healthier future for the dogs of Mazunte.
