“I want to finish university and became a General in the Military” this is Justin’s future dream. A reasonable dream. A normal dream for a young boy growing up anywhere in the world. Except for Justin, it’s almost an impossible dream, an uncertain dream. Justin is an 11-year-old boy and 3rd grader in Nyemoh elementary school, Salatiga, Indonesia. He was born with a facial disfiguration which not only dims his dream, but has caused shame and low self-esteem among his peers. But Justins situation doesn’t have to be this way. It only happened that his parents are very poor and can barely put food on the table. Leave alone afford the corrective facial surgery that Justin needed since birth. Through the Church and Community Transformation program implemented by Tearfund and Indonesian partner, the Lord has put a burden in our hearts to intervene for Justin. Tearfund partners, Yayan Sion and Yakkum Emergency Unit (YEU), together with the local church where Justins family attend have reached out to missionary doctors who have offered to conduct Justins facial corrective surgery for free. “Will I finally be able to smile like my friends?” is the first question Justin asked when he heard about the planned surgery. This is great news for Justin! While the surgery itself is for free, there are pre and post-surgery medical expenses estimated at Eur 1500. Considering that medical cost might be abit more than anticipated, any extra donations above the targeted Eur 1500 will be given to Justin's family to cushion them again such eventualities. As Tearfund Netherlands, we would like to thank you in advance for your kind and generous donation as we join hands to restore the smile of this future General, Justin Slamet!
