English below - Stel je voor: je bent een vrouw of jong meisje in een sloppenwijk in Nairobi, Kenia. Je wilt graag naar school of naar je werk, maar dan word je ongesteld... 

Gezinnen in de sloppenwijken hebben soms al te weinig geld voor voldoende eten, laat staan genoeg geld voor maandverband of tampons. Tijdens hun menstruatie missen ze daardoor vaak een paar dagen school of werk per maand, waardoor ze uiteindelijk gaan achterlopen of zelfs uitvallen.

Het verspreiden van menstruatiecups is de oplossing voor dit probleem.

Voor € 10,- koop je één menstruatiecup en help je een meisje of vrouw om 5-10 jaar lang (!) zorgeloos naar school en werk te gaan.

Help je mee zodat we zoveel mogelijk cups kunnen kopen?

Een menstruatiecup gaat 5-10 jaar mee, is makkelijk en veilig te gebruiken en ook nog eens beter voor het milieu. Er is water in de sloppenwijken, waardoor je de cup gemakkelijk kunt schoonmaken.

Voor het verspreiden van de menstruatiecups werken we samen met twee lokale organisaties: Move-Up Foundation en Shofco.

Move-Up foundation heeft al jarenlange ervaring in het uitdelen van de cups in Mathare, de oudste sloppenwijk van Nairobi. Hierbij geven ze ook training aan vrouwen die wonen in de sloppenwijk over het gebruik van de cup en over hygiëne. Deze lokale vrouwen informeren en helpen vervolgens hun eigen community. 

Shofco is actief in de sloppenwijken Kawangware en Mathare en hebben onder andere een programma voor vrouwelijk leiderschap in de sloppenwijk.

Met de inzet van lokale organisaties en vrouwen en de training over het gebruik van de cup, zorgen we ervoor dat de menstruatiecups goed en veilig worden gebruikt, de cups lang goedblijven en we zoveel mogelijk vrouwen kunnen helpen voor 5-10 jaar lang.

English - Imagine, you are a girl or woman living in the slums in Nairobi, Kenya. You would like to go to school or work, but then your period kicks in...

Often families in the slums have too little money for food, so having enough money to afford tampons or pads is a real challenge. During their period, girls and women often miss out days on school or work because of a lack of access to sanitary products, which in turn leads to disadvantages, or even a dropout.

Distributing menstrual cups is the solution to this problem. 

You can buy one menstrual cup for €10, helping a girl or woman to go carefree to school or work for 5-10 years long! 

Will you help, so we can buy as many cups as possible?

You can use a menstrual cup for 5-10 years, it's easy and safe to use, and better for the environment as well. Water is available in these communities, which allows cleaning the menstrual cups in an easy way. 

For distributing the cups, we will work together with two local organizations: Move-Up Foundation and Shofco. 

Move-Up foundation has many years of experience in distributing the cups in Mathare, the oldest slum of Nairobi. Hereby they provide training to women that live in the slums about usage of the cup and hygiene in general. These local women will inform and help their own communities consequently. 

Shofco is working in the Kawangware and Mathare slums, and their work includes a program about female leadership in the slums.

In collaboration with the local organizations and women, and by providing training about the usage of the cup and hygiene, we will make sure that the cups will be used properly and safely, that the cups can be used for a long time, and that we can help as many women as possible for 5-10 years long.
