Onze zoon Sam is voor zijn studie aan Stenden een half jaar in Port Alfred (Zuid Afrika) geweest en heeft o.a. een project op de Kuyasa Combined School gedaan. Port Alfred is een prachtige plek gelegen aan de Indische Oceaan. De moeite waard om eens naar toe te gaan. Ondanks het einde van de apartheid in 1990 zijn er in Zuid Afrika nog grote verschillen tussen arm en rijk en het zijn overwegend zwarte mensen die minder fortuinlijk zijn. Helaas faalt de politiek om dit te doorbreken. De Kuyasa Combined School is een school voor kinderen van 4-16 jaar uit de township van Port Alfred die zich tot doel heeft gesteld dit wel te doorbreken. Het is een ambitieuze school die haar leerlingen door onderwijs wil laten groeien. Het motto van de school is: "the sky is the limit" en gelijke kansen voor iedereen. Helaas zijn de omstandigheden niet eenvoudig. De klassen zijn groot en de huisvesting is slecht. Tegen alle verwachtingen in blinkt de school academisch uit. Wij willen de school graag een beetje verder helpen en hebben de school gevraagd naar hun behoeften. De klaslokalen hebben eigenlijk nieuwe vloeren nodig, maar daar is onvoldoende geld voor. Wij hopen met deze crowdfunding voldoende geld op te halen voor nieuwe vloeren. Help jij mee? Elke bijdrage is welkom. Alleen met goed onderwijs heeft Zuid-Afrika kans op een betere samenleving met meer gelijke kansen.
